Dubai: Tyres, ropes, cans, and even electrical appliances – these are only some of the things that police have retrieved from Dubai’s waters.
The General Department of Transport and Rescue at Dubai Police, in cooperation with the Ports Police Station, recently carried out its annual clean-up campaign at Al Hamriya Port in Dubai.
A number of police officers and as many as 265 professional and amateur divers, including a 13-year-old, participated in the campaign.
Colonel Saeed Al Madhani, Deputy Director of the Port Police Station, said: "This environmental initiative is continuing to achieve its goal for the fourth year in a row to create a clean marine environment."
He also called on fishermen and workers to protect their marine environment, as the Gulf’s waters is their source of income, and on which they rely heavily on it.
Lieutenant-Colonel Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi, Director of Sea Rescue Department in Dubai Police, explained that the campaign consisted of seven diving points, enabling volunteers to recover most of the toxic waste that threatened marine life and the environment.
