Dubai: As many as 588 free breast cancer screenings were carried out on day 2 of the Pink Caravan Ride on Wednesday.
The second day’s ride which began at Fujairah Men’s College covered 25.6km in eight hours and reached Khor Fakkan, making several stops throughout to promote the message of breast cancer awareness and the benefits of its early detection.
“Today’s ride coinciding with International Women’s Day reinforces the significance of this initiative, and reminds us to celebrate the achievements of women all over the world,” said one of the female riders in the group.
In support of breast cancer awareness on the occasion of International Women’s Day, 10 riders from the prestigious Godolphin Flying Start, a global leadership programme specialising in the international thoroughbred racing and breeding industry, were seen riding with Pink Caravan throughout the Fujairah leg.
Stressing on the importance of early detection, 28-year-old Michael Smith from California, USA, one of the riders representing Godolphin Flying Start, said: “I am here because my family was personally touched by cancer. My mother just finished six months of cancer treatment, and she is OK now. She was very lucky they caught it early. It is very important to raise awareness, and for women to get screened early so they can get treated early.
“Not only for their own health … but for their families as well.”
