Dubai: The Taqdeer Award Judging Committee has announced the names of 55 companies and workers to be awarded during a special ceremony.

The Taqdeer Award, launched under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, aims at enhancing the relationship between companies and workers by recognising excellence in labour practices and setting new benchmarks in work practices across sectors in Dubai.

The award’s committee selected 55 companies, workers and engineers as winners.

Construction companies, engineers and workers, as well as nine companies in Dafza (Dubai Airport Freezone Authority) and Silicon Oasis, were among the winners that will be recognised for their labour welfare policies and efforts.

The award’s management said the names of the winning companies and workers will be announced during a special ceremony, which will be attended by decision-makers, leaders from local and international government bodies, labour organisations and private companies.

Taqdeer Award is the world’s first points-based award programme for recognising excellence in labour welfare practices and seeks to promote international best practices in labour welfare among construction companies.

This is in addition to enhancing the relationship between companies and workers and recognising excellence among workers.

Maj Gen Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, deputy director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai and chairman of the Award, said, “We are now ready to start the next phase of work after selecting the winning companies. Our efforts will be focused from now on towards preparations for the next cycle, in which we expect to attract more than 100 companies.”

He added that the list of winners will be presented to Shaikh Hamdan for his final approval

Construction companies that get five- and four-star ratings will receive a certificate, enjoy priority in government projects, in addition to being honoured at the award ceremony.

These top ratings will give these companies a competitive advantage in bidding for international contracts.

Labourers working in the companies will also be awarded for excellence.

There are around 282 companies in this sector in Dubai, providing jobs to more than 500,000 workers.
