Sharjah: Sri Lankan and Indian ministers and cultural and religious leaders from India are scheduled to attend a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of setting up of monastery of Indian social reformer Sree Narayana Guru in Sharjah on Friday.

Sri Lankan Minister of National Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages Mano Ganesan will inaugurate a conference being held as part of the event, the organisers said in a press release.

Chief Minister of the South Indian state of Karnataka Siddaramaiah will be the chief guest at the function that is expected to be attended by thousands of people.

Free meals for 3,500 people will be served at the venue, Sharjah Expo Centre. Cultural programmes led by prominent artistes and film stars from the South Indian state of Kerala will also be held.

Sivagiri Samadhi in Kerala, where Guru died, is visited by thousands of pilgrims each year. They pay homage to the man who drastically changed the face of social life in Kerala and is a source of inspiration for social reformers.

When the world is dangerously getting segregated by various man made boundaries and walls, the messages of Gurudevan are a great relief and hope for the humanity to greatly value peace and love, the press release said.

“Gurudevan’s doctrines were not addressed to any particular religion, region, race or colour. His messages are truly universal and always above the walls of divisions humans have made to separate them and they continue to have profound influence in the present period also,” it added.
