Dubai: Twenty warnings have been issued to pest control companies, following inspections of 278 properties — 55 of which were residential compounds.

Dubai Municipality recently issued the fines to erring companies for causing minor injuries while doing pest control in affected areas.

Eng Hesham Abdul Rahman, head of the Pest Control Section at Dubai Municipality, said the civic body has inspected residential compounds and other places to monitor and combat insect infestation in those areas since the beginning of the year.

“Our surveys prove that the pest control operations are generally highly efficient and the companies that currently carry out the work are doing their job in the best way in line with the constant monitoring by Dubai Municipality to protect public health in the emirate of Dubai,’ he said.

He said these insects, particularly mosquitoes, thrive in stagnant water. This often occurs in villas whose owners leave their swimming pools and fountains unattended for a long time when they are away from home.

“The Local Order No 11 of 2003 gives the municipality the authority to monitor and control all pest control operations in the emirate of Dubai in order to maintain public health and safety,” he said.
