Muscat: Two people were killed and 13 others injured in a horrific three-vehicle crash in the Adam Province of Oman.
Two vehicles burst into flames due the impact of the crash, according to a statement by the Royal Oman Police.
The crash happened at 8pm on Tuesday, with the vehicles driven by Emirati and Saudi nationals.
"The accident involving three vehicles occurred at 8pm today with a fire outbreak among two of the vehicles in the area of Qurn Al Alam in Wilayat Adam in Ad Dakhalia," a police statement said.
“The initial information indicates that the accident caused the death of two individuals and injured 13 others from Saudi and Emirati nationalities,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the 13 people suffered light to severe injuries and were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
The dead are yet to be identified.
Accident-prone area
In August 2015, five Emiratis were killed on the spot in a head-on collision in the same province. The dead were members of a family from Al Ain, which was heading to Salalah, in the southern part of Oman.
The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which swerving off its lane and collided with a heavy truck.
In 2013, six Emiratis were killed in another road accident in Salalah province.
In 2012, seven Emiratis were killed in a similar accident in Salalah.
