Abu Dhabi: A total of 2,723 paid parking spaces have been introduced in the capital, the Department of Transport announced in a statement on Thursday.
The parking spaces are distributed around Al Khalidiya, Al Bateen and Al Rowda areas, and motorists will have to pay to park in them from Sunday.
In Al Khalidiya’s Sector W1701, there will be 1,054 standard parking bays, including 11 for motorists with special needs and two for fire hydrants. The sector is bound by Al Falah in the north, Hazza Bin Zayed Street in the south, Mubarak Bin Mohammed Street in the east and Khalifa Bin Shakhbout in the west.
In Bateen Sector W17-03, 500 standard parking bays have been introduced. The area is bordered by Al Falah Street in the north, Hazza Bin Zayed Street in the south, Arabian Gulf Street in the east and Al Bateen Street in the west. Two of them are fire hydrant bays and one for motorists with special needs.
Al Rowda Sector W58 will have 1,169 standard parking bays with 13 allocated for people with special needs. The sector is bordered by Embassy Street in the north, 17th Street (Zayed Sports City) in the south, Saif Gobash Street in the east and Arabian Gulf Street in the west.
Transport officials said the implementation of paid parking will ensure the steady flow of traffic in the neighbourhoods while eliminating parking violations. Inspectors will also be deployed to ensure that motorists adhere to the regulations.
