Dubai: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has announced that air traffic movements in the UAE grew at a rate of 5.1 per cent in January 2014 compared to the same month last year.

The GCAA monthly report indicated that total air traffic movements in January 2014 were 68,620, with an average of 2,214 air traffic movements per day.

GCAA’s monthly report for January 2014 showed the number of air traffic movements in each UAE airport. Dubai ranked first with 31,995 air traffic movements. Over-flights stood next at 12,072 air traffic movements.

Abu Dhabi ranked third with 10,664 air traffic movements. Sharjah International Airport came next with 5,633 movements. Local flights between UAE airports totalled 5,634 movements.

Fujairah International Airport witnessed 96 movements, while Ras Al Khaimah International Airport had 53 air traffic movement. Al Ain Airport had 177 air traffic movements and Al Maktoum International Airport witnessed 1,666 movements.
