Scottie Scheffler will tee it up at the second round of the PGA Championship after being released by police.
The World No.1 was detained by police near Valhalla Golf Club this morning as he made his way to the course for the tournament.
In a separate incident, play was delayed on Friday due to a fatal accident near the course, and it is understood Scheffler was trying to avoid the scene of the incident when he was stopped by the police.
The Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections, who posted a mugshot of the 27-year-old, said he was booked in at 7.28am local time and released at 8.40am.
Scheffler has been charged with second degree assault of a policer officer, third degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic
“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers,” said Scheffler in a statement on Instagram.
“It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do.
"I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.
“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”
In a video on social media from ESPN's Jeff Darlington, a police officer can be heard saying after Scheffler is handcuffed: "Right now he is going to jail and there isn't anything you can do about it."
A statement from Louisville Metro Police Department on the earlier collision said: "About 5:00 ET this morning, the LMPD responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a bus. Our preliminary investigation found that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Shelbyville Roadsouth to north when he was struck by a shuttle bus that was traveling eastbound in the compulsory center lane dedicated for buses.
"As a result, the pedestrian received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating."
Scheffler gets his second round underway at 6.08pm GST today.
